PHP2Shell
Do you know what is also exactly 20 years old? The Bits und so website, a WordPress installation that has been held together with hopes and dreams and duct tape for far too long.
The first rumors about the PHP2Shell vulnerability surfaced 24 hours ago. PHP moved its release forward by one day to Wednesday. Overnight, a very unsettling video appeared showing a proof of concept demonstrating how the latest version of PHP can be compromised. And every version going all the way back to PHP 5.4.
I tried to lock down the site as best I could, but there were several indications that all countermeasures could only provide partial protection. At around 3 a.m., I shut down WordPress.
Forever.
Exactly 20 years to the day.
Since this morning, bitsundso.de has been running on a new server, built with Go + SQLite, of course.
If you look closely, you'll find a complete but temporary recreation of the old 2008 theme by Gerrit van Aaken.
This finally opens up the possibility of working on the website again and building new features. I really can't wait!
Plus purchases might still be a little shaky, as I wasn't really able to test that properly beforehand. If you run into any problems, please email support.
